Services
At Hansen Dyson we offer a variety of services to help you create, polish, publish, and market your work. Choose between any number of individual services or one of our many Publishing or Business packages.
Hybrid Publishing
Hansen Dyson is a Hybrid publisher. We sit at the intersection between traditional publishing and self-publishing. Like a traditional publisher, we offer high-quality publishing services and complete project curation and oversight. We are involved throughout the entire publishing process. As with self-publishing, however, you, the author retain 100% of the rights to your work, have greater creative input, and receive a much larger percentage of sales. Hybrid publishing employs the best practices of both models.
Hansen Dyson offers all necessary publishing services and curatorial care for authors who prefer a self-publishing approach. Check out our business and customizable packages as well, to see which one is right for you.
Author Support
At Hansen Dyson, we provide all the services you need to bring your best work to the world.
We will assign you a primary support guide adept in each phase of production. You will receive premium one-on-one guidance and oversight on your project from start to finish. Our white-glove service ensures your work is of the highest quality possible.

Editorial Assessment
An editorial assessment is a preliminary diagnostic tool an editor uses to determine the type of editing your manuscript may need. Once you have completed a first draft, our experienced editors will review sections of your manuscript and provide you with an in-depth editorial letter. In this letter, they will survey your manuscripts’ overall quality and areas that can be strengthened, and provide you with constructive feedback. They will also schedule a post-critique conference with you to discuss revisions, strategies, questions, and concerns.
This initial dialogue allows both author and editor to surmise the author’s next course of action. An editorial assessment can be an important first step in perfecting your manuscript.
*Note: a typical timeline for an editorial assessment is 2 weeks, however, this timeline is also dependent on our work queue and the complexity of your manuscript.
PRICING: $25 per 1000 words, including 3500-5000 word editorial review, and 1 hour post-critique conference.
At Hansen Dyson, we offer discounted rates for combined editorial services.
Developmental Editing
Developmental editing concerns itself with your book’s ‘big picture’. It focuses on organization, structure, and consistency instead of punctuation and grammar. Developmental edits are done while your book is in its beginning stages, helping you to flesh out the rough outline of your ideas, and transition from an early draft to a final work. Developmental editing reviews all major storytelling elements and safeguards authors from paying for later-stage edits, as story issues are easier to correct in the beginning. This form of editing is a particularly great guide for new authors.
Developmental editors do not write or rewrite any part of your work but rather help you to see your manuscript from the reader’s point of view and improve your writing. Our talented and inquisitive editors will ask many questions, provide feedback and suggestions, and help you craft your ideas and unique voice into a compelling story.
PRICING: $50 per 1000 words. This includes 3 rounds of edits.
*Children’s books are priced at 0.5 cents per word, also including 3 rounds of edits.
At Hansen Dyson, we offer discounted rates for combined editorial services.
Line Editing
A line edit is a line-by-line review of your manuscript. It is the most detailed edit you can get. If an editorial assessment or developmental edit can be considered the macro level of editing, line editing is the micro level. Line editors are concerned with the stylistic and creative elements of your story.
Line editors focus on word choice, the impact of your sentences, and whether your sentences flow together. They eliminate run-ons, sentence fragments, wordiness, cliches, and jargon, clarify meaning and help you make your prose sing. They are not concerned with errors so much as how you communicate with your readers. In this way, they differ from copy editors, though they can perform those services as well.
PRICING: $50 per 1000 words. This includes 3 rounds of edits.
At Hansen Dyson, we offer discounted rates for combined editorial services.
Content Editing
Content editing sits between the global view of an editorial assessment or developmental edit and the ground-level view of a line edit. A content editor combines a focus on big-picture issues such as your story’s structure, comprehensiveness, and flow, with the more specific details of your book’s tone, voice, and how you use words to communicate with your readers.
Content editors help you refine your language on a paragraph-to-paragraph level, move content around within chapters, and/or, where beneficial, even delete it. Our savvy editors will work in tandem with you to organize and distill your prose so it is riveting and reader-ready.
PRICING: $50 per 1000 words. This includes 3 rounds of edits.
At Hansen Dyson, we offer discounted rates for combined editorial services.
Copyediting
Copy editing concerns itself with both the small details and the continuity of the overarching themes of your story. It sits somewhere between more in-depth content editing and the technicalities of proofreading.
Copy editing is the last step in editing before proofreading. It is only applicable once any other form of comprehensive editing has been completed.
Contact us today to partner with one of our many skilled, meticulous copyeditors.
PRICING: $35 per 1000 words.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the last step in the editorial process before publishing. It is only for the final, formatted book. Proofreading is about quality assurance. The intention is to catch any remaining errors from misspelled words to missing words, other typos, or incorrect information. A proofreader’s job is to ensure you present polished and professional work devoid of distracting errors that would diminish it.
Proofreading is an indispensable part of book publishing and is required by all traditionally published books. Contact us for a free sample edit of up to 500 words.
PRICING: $25 per 1000 words.
*Note: the turnaround time is 6-8 days
Ghostwriting
Not everyone with a book idea is a writer. This applies especially to non-fiction and biography authors, but can also apply to any other genre of literature. At Hansen Dyson, we have talented writers who can bring your voice and vision to the page.
Ghostwriters do not take credit for the work, only a fee for their assistance. They collaborate with you, the author, using their adroit command of language to give your story a compelling narrative flow. Contact us today to work with one of our experienced writers.
PRICING: $60 per 1000 words. This includes 3 rounds of edits.
Art & Design
Did you know first impressions are 94% design-related? Or that 90% of the information transmitted to our brains is visual? Visual art and design is not just a form of communication, it is a far more effective one, surpassing verbal or written forms. Scientists and psychologists believe the brain processes images nearly 60,000 times faster than the spoken or written word. Our brains also retain far more visual content than any other it acquires. We are visual creatures.
The importance of your visual communication, from your book cover illustrations, photos, or graphics, cannot be overstated. Design helps to transmit your message faster, improve comprehension and trigger an emotional response from your readers. It helps attract potential readers by answering the first question in book positioning: “Why should I read your book?”
At Hansen Dyson, our creative team will help you answer this decisively with unique and evocative visuals that tell your story.
Marketing & Distribution
What good is an amazing book if no one knows about it? Marketing is another critical component of your book’s success. While editing helps ensure your book is the best it can be, and design helps to communicate your message, and entice and inform your readers visually, marketing ensures your book has the opportunity to be seen.
At Hansen Dyson, we assist with every phase of your marketing, from helping you create your author’s bio, author’s website, and book synopsis, to getting your book reviews, retail placement, and worldwide distribution. From press coverage, to email marketing and social media management, to optimizing keywords and metadata, Hansen Dyson will help you with a winning marketing strategy, and get your hard work out in front of the world.
